I'm posting this to pass the word along!

Many of you have probably seen this dollhouse around on various blogs, images etc.  I've always loved it!

Please vote for this dollhouse to be made.

Megan has a lot more info about this house on her blog: Modern Mini Houses

Please vote for it to be manufactured on Quirky.com, there are so few modern dollhouses on the market in 1/12 scale.

Citadel Update

Believe it or not, I have actually made a small amount of progress on the Citadel.  I have made just a couple of modifications to it.  I don't really plan on making any other changes though.

I thought the sliding glass doors to the outside should be in the back of the house for privacy. See to the left, there is a space for a large sliding glass door.

I turned that space into a large window by closing it up at the bottom.  It really doesn't make it look much different.  I also started on the siding.  I used traditional clapboard siding for the top 2/3 and made the slats on the bottom part out of 1/8" plywood cut down to 1/4" strips.  Cutting down the plywood is much cheaper than buying a zillion pieces of 1/4" strip wood although the strip wood would be more consistent.  The house will be painted a very gark charcoal grey.

I decided to move the sliding glass door to the back of the house.  I just took this window down to the floor.

I think it's a good fit.

I also wanted to make the wall to the left of the entrance into a pony wall.  I want to give it a slight midcentury modern vibe.  I will probably make the top of the short wall into a built-in planter or decorative room divider.

Here is another view of the wall.

Here is what it looks now that the wall is down.  It really opens it up too, not that it needed to be opened up.

The view from the left side of the house with the sliding glass door and wall down.  This will be the open concept kitchen area.

By the way, today is the last day to enter the giveaway!

200 Followers and Almost 2 Years

About two weeks ago this blog reached 200 followers....then it lost one making it 199.  Now there are 202.  Also, my blog will reach it's 2 year mark next month, so I think it's time to celebrate!

Before I tell you about how I'd like to celebrate, I want to tell a few things I have learned from having this blog:  This is not in any specific order, I'm just randomly putting down my thoughts.

  • It's not wierd to make new friends on the internet...at least not in this case.  I feel like I have made some wonderful friends all over the world in the last two years.  It's nice to be able to share your hobby without people thinking you're that crazy dollhouse lady (kind of like the crazy cat lady).
  • I have become more generous.  Not just with minis, but in life in general.
  • I'm still REALLY bad at getting back to people on a timely basis.  Some of you know this first hand.
  • I've learned to live with a dirty house so that I can work on miniatures.
  • I've learned how to create soooooooooo many things thanks to my fellow bloggers.
  • There is an amazing number of extremely talented creative people out there-true artists!
  • I know why hand made modern miniatures are so expensive: The time and effort that goes into making each one.  You have to be really creative to do this on a budget, but that's part of the fun of it!
  • I work outside of the house so that I can support this crazy obsession.
  • Miniatures are small, but take up a huge amount of space!
  • Nothing goes in the trash or recycling unless it has been examined for miniature possibilities first.

Feel free to add to the list if you would like!

Welcome to Wal Mart

Ok, let me express how much I DON'T like going to Wal Mart...as a matter of fact I LOATHE it!  As I'm guessing is true with most Wal Mart stores, the one closest to me is dirty, unorganized and the employees as well as the shoppers are rude.  There is however one Wal Mart that I have been to that is clean, organized and the shoppers and employees are both pleasant.  It's in Houghton, Michigan which was a small copper mining town back in the day.  I digress...

There are two redeeming qualities of Wal Mart...The first is really isn't redeeming at all, but it's pretty funny!  That is People of Wal Mart.com , you get to see things like this:

And this...

Seriously?  Is this acceptable to be out in public?

If you haven't seen the web site, I suggest that you check it out.  You will laugh your ass off!

The second and most likely the only real redeeming quality of Wal Mart is that they have a great selection of small printed fabric and great prices on some craft items to use for miniatures.

I have to be in a really good mood to go to Wal Mart because if I'm not, I will surely get pissed off and leave.  (I've done it before).  Yesterday...I went to Wal Mart!

Here is what I got:

Package of dowel rods $.97, 100 tiny zip lock bags $.97, gargantuan sized hot glue sticks $4.47, fat quarters $.97 each and 1/2 yard each 11 different fabrics-none cost more than $2.74.

I bought more than I entended, but the peace of mind that I won't have to go to Wal Mart for a long time?...... Priceless.
