A Spooky Challenge

It's that time of year again.  Time for my favorite holiday...Halloween!  You may ask why Halloween is my favorite holiday, I'll tell you...The only pressure there is for Halloween is to out do myself from last year and make sure we have enough candy (preferably chocolate) on hand. 

I know some people love Christmas or Hanukkah and can't wait for it. I'm not knocking it.  I actually love the lights etc.  For me, there's way too much pressure to make things perfect and purchase that perfect gift or purchase gifts just because you know you have to. 

To me, Halloween is all about fun and being creative.  To make my point clear, I've included a few pictures from our last couple of Halloween parties:

Here are some "awfully" appetizing hors d'oeurves .

 

These worms are made from jello, cool whip and food coloring. Gross, huh? Not many people ate them because they looked a little too real.

 

Anyway needless to say, I LOVE Halloween.

 

On to the challenge:

The challenge is, should you accept it..

Make a Halloween scene.

 

It can be whatever you want: gory, gross, funny, artsy, modern, traditional, scary, friendly...whatever you want to make.

 

Just post it by October 31st.   If you can't post it by then, post it whenever you get to it!

Miniatures in the Midwest

As some of you may know, I live in Indiana.  There's not a whole lot here as far as miniatures go although  my town was voted the best place in America to live by Money Magazine so it does have a lot of other things to offer.  The closest miniature store is about an hour and a half away.  We do have The Museum of Dollhouse Miniatures which sponsors an annual miniature show.  Last weekend was their annual show and sale which I was able to get to.  It was fun and I got to meet a few wonderful people.  There were very few modern miniatures, but this is what I did find there.

 I've been looking for months for a white Barcelona chair, but nobody seems to have any.  The only place I have seen them is at Minismodernas.  Unfortunately, the shipping to the U.S. makes them a little too expensive for me.  So, I thought I'd buy a couple of black ones and paint them white.  Then I realized that the strapping under the cushions are black too and that part would be a real pain in the butt to paint.  That's ok because I like them in black as well and I couldn't beat the price: 2 for $20.  If anyone knows where I can get some white ones, please let me know.

 I like how whis vase has a MCM feel with the swirled colors.

My favorite is this boomerang shaped desk from The Happy Bungalow. The hanging plant is nice too.

I also entered the Atomic Bungalow in the judging contest which was fun.  I won first place in the Houses category!

However, there were only three houses that were entered.

There were several categories and first and second prizes, so there were a lot of winners.  It was fun though.

Calling Paul McCobb Miniatures

Hi Everyone,

I know that you modernists and retro modernists must remember at least a year ago (probably more like a year and a half to two years ago) there were some absolutely wonderful Paul McCobb miniatures that were listed on Ebay.  They were fabulous midcentury modern replicas of his 1:1 work that he used on various projects.

I am looking for pictures of any those items that were listed.  I know I have seen some on someone's blog, but I can't remember who.

The reason being that there was a nice article in the current Atomic Ranch Magazine that highlighted Paul McCobb's work.  I thought it would be fun to write to Atomic Ranch with some info about the fabulous miniatures.

If anyone has any of those pictures, may I PLEASE borrow them to send to Atomic Ranch?  I will most certainly give credit to the owner(s) of the pictures.

My Design Soulmate

Recently, I have been checking out designs from Jonathan Adler.  I have always liked his designs, but really didn't look at them much probably because I can't afford them.  Recently I saw a show on HGTV that shows the favorite spaces of celebrities and designers.  Jonahtan Adler was highlighted.  I fell in love with his designs.  They are colorful, simple, fun and they have a touch of midcentury influence.

I even recently bought a couple of Barbie sized Jonathan Adler lamps that I think would make fun oversized floor lamps for 1/12 scale.  I bought primarily because they came with great black and white vases.

 

Here are some of the latest inspiration pieces I have been dreaming of...

 

 

These are giving me such great ideas.  Now, I just have to find the time to make them...
